Como hemos dicho en ocasiones anteriores, las mudanzas pueden generar muchísimo estrés a las personas. Cuando hemos de empaquetar y trasladar todas nuestras pertenencias, son muchos factores los que alteran nuestro estado de ánimo. Las emociones están a flor de piel y es fácil que nos enfademos, discutamos o que incluso lloremos.
También hemos ofrecido aquí consejos sobre los niños y cómo las personas pequeñas también pueden pasarlo mal en un día tan crítico. Es importante estar pendientes de ellos y asegurarnos de que estén distraídos y entretenidos. Hemos de transmitirles una sensación de normalidad, a pesar de que el día de una mudanza no suele ser precisamente normal.
Mudanza con animales; su perro no es un mueble
Ahora bien, ¿y nuestros animales? Perros, gatos, canarios o peces. Iguanas, serpientes, hámsteres o tortugas. Recordemos que los animales no son cosas; son seres vivos inteligentes que respiran y sufren y no pueden ser tratados como muebles.
Nuestras mascotas domésticas, normalmente acostumbradas a una determinada rutina de paseos, cuidados y comidas, van a ser las primeras de la casa en detectar cualquier cambio de la actividad normal. Se pueden alterar si observan personas desconocidas y a buen seguro se extrañarán cuando comprueben que empezamos a mover muebles y cajas. Cierto es que no hablan nuestro idioma pero con toda seguridad empezarán a preguntarse por el motivo de tanto movimiento.
Es por ello que queremos ofrecerles algunos consejos para intentar mitigar el estrés que puedan sufrir sus animales, en la esperanza de que ustedes tengan una cosa menos de la que preocuparse el día de la mudanza. Nos centraremos en las mascotas más habituales (perros y gatos) pero muchos de estos consejos aplican a cualquier animal doméstico.
Consejos para sobrevivir a una mudanza con animales
1.- Preparen una caja o bolsa con los elementos imprescindibles de cuidado de su mascota. Este “kit” debe estar accesible en todo momento y no debe mezclarse con el resto de cajas y bultos de la mudanza. Se debe incluir comida, bebida y algunos premios o golosinas. Tierra para la bandeja del gato. Juguetes. Cepillo. La definición de “imprescindible” será diferente en función del tipo de animal pero intenten que esta caja no sea muy pesada y que su contenido se limite a las necesidades básicas.
2.- Si van a cambiar de zona, háganlo saber a su veterinario. Es un buen momento para actualizar vacunas si fuera necesario y pida también a su veterinario una copia del historial de su mascota. De este modo, cuando acuda a un nuevo especialista, será más fácil darle una atención continuada a su animal.
3.- El día de la mudanza en sí, procuren que sus mascotas estén en la zona más silenciosa y tranquila de la casa. Si es necesario, despejen una habitación completamente y dejen allí a su animal, con su cama y con suficiente comida y agua. La habitación deberá estar bien ventilada y a buena temperatura. No se olviden de ellos y entren regularmente a echar un vistazo.
Una buena alternativa es que el día de la mudanza dejen a su animal con algún amigo o familiar. Si van a viajar muy lejos esto no es una opción pero ténganlo en cuenta como una posibilidad.
4.- Cuando hagan una mudanza con animales, trasladen a su mascota en el vehículo de siempre. Bajo ningún concepto deben ir sus animales en la furgoneta o el camión de la mudanza. Además de proteger su integridad física, pretendemos que nuestras mascotas no sientan nada diferente. Recuerden seguir las normas de circulación en lo que concierne al traslado de animales.
5.- Tengan mucho cuidado cuando lleguen a su nuevo vecindario. En un nuevo entorno, es muy fácil que sus perros o gatos se pierdan si por algún descuido se nos escapan. Lleven bien atado a su animal hasta que estén dentro de su nueva casa y denles unos días para adaptarse. Estén muy pendientes de ellos durante estos primeros días.
6.- Muevan a su mascota en último lugar. En una mudanza con animales es vital que su mascota llegue a un entorno ya amueblado y preparado para ellos. Si no les ha dado tiempo a adecentar toda su nueva casa, preparen una habitación o rincón y dótenlo de objetos y cosas familiares para su perro o gato. Su cama, su manta o sus juguetes. De este modo será menos traumática la transición.
7.- Ya instalados en su nueva casa y tras su mudanza con animales, recuerden actualizar los datos de contacto del chip sub-cutáneo de su mascota. Deberán para ello acudir a su nuevo veterinario.
8.- ¿Tienen peces? Entonces sabrán que sufren muchísimo estrés con los traslados y que una mudanza puede ser fatal para ellos. Si el trayecto es corto, pueden trasladarlos en bolsas llenas de agua de su propio tanque. Ahora bien, si el viaje es muy largo, es mejor que regalen los peces a un amigo o familiar y que compren otros peces para su nueva casa.
9.- ¿Tienen pájaros? Quizá estén muy orgullosos de que vivan sueltos en sus casas y de que nunca salgan volando. Tengan muy claro que los pájaros se estresan tanto o más que los peces y que si han de escaparse, lo harán el día de la mudanza. Manténganlos en sus jaulas durante la mudanza e incluso unos días después, hasta que se habitúen a su nuevo entorno.
10.- Nuestro último consejo es de aplicación para cualquier tipo de animal o mascota doméstica. En Mudanzas OCM somos respetuosos con el medio ambiente y muy respetuosos con los animales. Es por ello que queremos que entiendan que los animales no son cosas y que deben ser tratados como un miembro más de la familia.
